Spanish Churros

Spanish Churros

When I was a little girl my grandma use to make us mid afternoon snacks; these snacks were both savoury and sweet. Empanadas (recipe here) & Tequeños (recipe coming soon) were always my favourites, every now and then she will surprise us with Churros and I couldn't resist.

If you grew up in a latin country, just like me, you probably also remember having merienda (afternoon snacks) and if it was a sweet treat was accompanied by cafe con leche (coffee and milk). These treats fill in my afternoon and my memories, memories that forever will have the name of grandma in it.

For this recipe you will need an electric beater and a pastry bag with a star end.

This Recipe yields 2 portions.

Ingredients:

1 cup of water

1/2 cup of butter (melted)

1 cup of AP flour

1/4 teaspoon of salt

3 eggs (beaten)

1/2 cup of brown sugar

1/4 cup of cinnamon

Oil for frying

Directions:

1. In a sauce pan bring to a boil : water, butter and salt. Stir in with a spoon small quantities of the flour, until forming a homogenous ball, turn the heat down and beat in the eggs until fully incorporated.

2. Preheat frying oil.

3. Put the mixture in a pastry bag and pump it directly into the oil, fry until golden brown.

4. Mix sugar and cinnamon together and dust it over the freshly fried churros.

Tips:

1. I like churros simply made, but you can melt some chocolate for dipping and it is just as delicious.

Enjoy!
