Sfiha (Lebanese Meat Pie)
Whenever I make these pies, I have to make a lot of them, as these get eaten in no time.
I usually eat quite a few of these also, which make them so incredibly dangerous; if you are watching your waist line.
They are pillows of heaven filled on Lebanese pride and flavors.
This recipe yields 20 units of each filling.
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
3 cups of all-purpose flour
1/2 cup of yogurt
1/2 cup olive oil
½ teaspoon of salt
½ tablespoon dried yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1/3 cup warm
For the filling:
1 medium onion (chopped)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoon salt
300 gr. of minced beef
2 medium tomatoes (chopped)
1 tablespoon of all spices
A handful of pine nuts to garnish (optional)
Directions:
1. In a bowl mix: flour, salt, sugar and yeast; then add the ¼ cup of olive oil, yogurt and warm water. Mix until a smooth dough. Let it rest for at least 1 hour. Then make 20 equal balls.
2. In another bowl mix: the beef, one onion, tomatoes and all spices, mix well and keep cool.
3. Flatten each ball into a round and filled with the spinach mixture closing it into small corners transforming the round into a square, garnish with pine nuts and bake for 30 minutes or until meat completely cooked.
4. Serve both pies warm.
Tips:
1. You can serve the meat pie with yogurt dressing or garlic dressing.
