Blakava
I've said it a couple of times before, I'm not a sweet tooth and I rarely make sweets. But I make sure I always have a few cards under the sleeves.
This recipe is a big WOW-er and very simple to make. It is also very sweet.
This makes 1 tray of about 60 pieces.
Ingredients:
18 filo dough sheets
4 sticks of butter (melted)
2 cups of walnuts (finely chopped)
2 cups of pistachio nuts (finely chopped)
2 cups of almonds (finely chopped)
2 cups of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon
2 cups of regular granulated sugar
1 cup of water
1 tablespoon of rosewater
1 tablespoon of orange blossom water
Directions:
1. Preheat oven at 350 degrees.
2. In a bowl mix: all the nuts with the powdered sugar and cinnamon.
3. Brush some of the margarine on the tray and layer the filo sheets, one sheets at time and brushing each layer with butter. Until you reach six layers.
4. Spread the nuts evenly and repeat direction #3and then spread the remaining of the nuts and layer the last 6 filo sheets. Cut into small pieces before baking.
5. Bake until top is golden.
6. While the baklava is baking, proceed making a simple syrup with the granulated sugar and water, bring it to a boil and turn the heat down. Let it thicken on low heat for about 5 minutes. Add the rosewater and orange blossom water.
7. When baklava is cooked take it out of the from the oven and ladle the syrup on top the baklava.
Enjoy!
