Cheese Puffs (Gourgères)
If you are anything like me, you always have a lot of cheese leftovers. The best way to finish them is to cook with them.
This recipe is super easy, and so delicious. Little clouds of melty heaven.
Ingredients:
50 ml of milk
40 ml of water
40g of butter
65g of flour (all-purpose flour)
2 eggs
70g of Gruyère cheese (or any other cheese, that can melt, I used a Isli peynir- A Turkish's Smoked Cheese)
Instructions:
1. The first thing we must do is prepare the dough this fancy dough (in French: pâte a choux), which is super easy, I promise. Heat the milk, water, and butter in a saucepan. When it comes to a boil, turn the heat off, add the flour and mix until the dough acquires a thick texture. Add one of the eggs and a pinch of salt, mix well and let cool.
2. While the dough is cooling, preheat the oven to 225º.
3. Grate the cheese into fine threads. When the dough has cooled, add the other egg and the cheese.
4. In a tray with baking paper, divide the dough into 10 to 12 units. With the help of a spoon, silicon spatula, or with your hands.
Bake for 15 minutes (or until golden-brown) at 225ºC and serve warm.
Tips:
1. Add mustard powder , cayenne pepper powder and chives for a little extra something.
2. Instead of laying it on the a bake-tray, use cup-cake trays.
Enjoy!
