Valentine's Buffet
How does freshly baked goods, delicious cheeses, a yogurt parfait, chocolate, fruits, macaroons, sound like? It sounds like love to me, I kind of love that can be shared with a family. Don't worry I'm not going to be given you any elaborate recipe, I think valentine's should be a day to treat but also for the the one organising it. Thus, I'm sharing a few tips and tricks to pull off a table full, with minimum effort.
This buffet is meant to serve at least 4 people. Bur hey, feel free to adjust this amount to your own preference.
Start by assembling a baskets of bake-goods, I try to keep a a variety of items, between 3 and 4 items, to tackle all tastes.
Next step, making a cheese platter is great if you are having more than 4 people, then different cheeses is a good option, but if you are keeping it "intimate", make the buffet about quality and not quantity. When putting a plate that has just one cheese, and one type of cured meat, one type of seafood (like smoked salmon, cooked shrimps), cream cheese and butter to spread on the backed goods, as well marmalades, and eggs, nothing can go a miss. In this occasion I made a simple eggs salad (boiled eggs, mashed with a bit of salt, pepper, mustard).
Lastly, bring in the sweets, fruit, the coffee and the juices. I think French do their best expressing l'amour, so I leave it to them to do the work, I got some macaroons, chocolate sauce, chocolate paste. I picked a fruit that was not so sweet and fresh to wash down all the sweets, the same for the juice, acidity is necessary to bring some balance.
Happy Valentines' Day!
